I can see why some of you are confused. Let me try to explain:

    It’s not privacy.

    It’s Mozilla® Privacy™

@aral As if to prove that #Mozilla is completely wrong with its approach to data traders because there is no such thing as "good tracking": In Germany, several media outlets have "legally" obtained and evaluated the data sets of a data broker. It is turning into a bit of a scandal.

@aral And all the bad actors will stop their bad tracking completely as soon as Mozilla introduces their good tracking. After all, they are working with Facebook on this, so it must be good.

@czhang03 Well, I wouldn’t criticise Google too loudly in their presence, they do get roughly half a billion dollars from them every year and wouldn’t exist without it.

Also, I’m assuming their head of public policy was wrong when she told me they were “just another Silicon Valley tech company” and that I shouldn’t hold them to a higher standard.

Assuming their implementation is solid, I actually see their system as a valid compromise moving forward. If they communicated that to me, and if I am using firefox, I probably will turn it on.

However, the problem is that they never communicated this feature, which do require data collection about ad campaign, and just silently turning it on for all users.

When they are caught, they proceed to insult their user by saying, yeah, you don't like it just because you don't understand it. Even though they spend zero seconds educating their user about it, and communicating what does it do.

Although, I do appreciate they call it what it is "ad analytics", instead of google just slap on a random pretty name, like "privacy sandbox" for their analytics.
