I'm extremely serious about this question

If Biden is now backing down about Trump being a threat to democracy (because I guess he thinks this rhetoric is just too hot for TV and contributed somehow to the shooting)

then why should anyone vote Biden. What's the remaining case for his own re-election?

@InternetEh @moira Biden also increased the tariffs on Chinese made EVs from 25% to 100% rather than making US companies ACTUALLY invest in their EV and renewable energy departments. These are multi BILLION dollar companies, they can afford it. Cars for 10k, something we don't have here and would go a LONG way in reducing emissions considering the country has decided, once again, to not invest in public transpo. And would be especially helpful to low income folks. The IR Act is helpful but it is not enough, and these companies did NOT need subsidizing, and the 70 Billion they received to do the right goddamn thing should have been invested in public good, like public transpo or healthcare, or subsidizing food costs as climate change has ravaged the ag sector more than it has the fuckin auto industry.

@moira neither of them have climate reduction plans scientists say would be sufficient for continued life on earth. Neither are under that red line.

And furthermore, if you're going to enact any meaningful climate legislation, you need a plan for the Supreme Court and Biden refuses to confront them.

@InternetEh Aside from the fact that some of us are going to be made illegal again if Biden doesn't win:

      Climate.

Trump's gonna stamp down on renewables and zero-carbon energy sources. He's going to ramp up oil and gas production through the roof.

This is existential not just for us but for civilisation as a whole, and for a fair chunk of the world, for literally everyone.

Climate change is very real, and Trump wants a lot more of it, while Biden _has done_ more against it than every other president combined, and is running on doing a lot more.

      Climate. That's why.

@IntrepidVector @moira @ItsJenNotGoblin George W. Bush condemned Israel's attack on an apartment that killed "only" about a dozen. As did the UN.

Reagan ended the slaughter in Lebanon with a phone call and he called it "a Holocaust" to menachim Begin.

You don't know more about this than we do. You're ignorant and a propagandist for genocidaires

      @moira @InternetEh @ItsJenNotGoblin

Biden's been holding back Netanyahu harder than any all other US presidents combined have ever held back Israel.

If you're gonna lie to my face, at least make it plausible-sounding. Previous presidents got ceasefires with just one phone call threatening to suspend aid. Biden's an enthusiastic participant.

@InternetEh @ItsJenNotGoblin What, you want me to lie and say he won't be? Because holy shit he will.

Trump sends former US ambassadors to Israel to write pro-genocide slogans - one you just quoted - on Israeli bombs.

I know you won't be receptive to it but Biden's been holding back Netanyahu harder than any all other US presidents combined have ever held back Israel. So much he's in real political trouble for it. He sent a fleet of people over to try to prevent this from happening, and has been dragging Netanyahu to peace talks by the scruff of his neck ever since.

Netanyahu straight up says he wants Trump back in office literally so he _can_ "finish the job."

If you want to ignore all that reality I can't stop you but fuck, dude.

@ItsJenNotGoblin @InternetEh As someone who reads The Hill, I am aware that it has a particular right-ish slant. Be aware of that.

Biden has been very, very clear - also from early on - that he wants industrial capacity restored to the US. This is part of that; no piece of policy is implemented in isolation.

I wanna be clear that I don't agree with this particular policy. But I understand it and recognise it for what it is.

Biden wants industrial capacity brought back to the US. He wants it done for strategic reasons, for jobs reasons, for unionization reasons, and for policy durability reasons.

(It's hard for a Republican to force a major employer to close in their own state.)

That, too, is part of getting to finish the job.
