Why do people boost their own toots? Seems goofy.

Ben :bc: (thebreadmonkey@beige.party)'s status on Tuesday, 16-Jul-2024 08:14:44 JST Ben :bc: I was going to be super silly about this but am actually going to reply seriously. I had a bit of a crisis about doing this when I first started, but a few people here (who I like and respect) pointed out that because there's no algorithm and your 'audience' is global and therefore across different timezones, it's perfectly acceptable to let your beautiful little birdies fly again more than once - because otherwise you have a limited audience. Particularly if your purpose here is engagement. If you have something to be said that you want to be seen, there ain't no shame in boosting it to ensure you capture the attention of others. Otherwise it languishes, bound. Let it be free. Do it once. Do it twice. Do it a hundred times. I fully endorse the self boost and may it find the enlightened heights you desire.

jargon (jarg0n@mastodon.online)'s status on Tuesday, 16-Jul-2024 08:14:45 JST jargon @MoiraEve @TheBreadmonkey Sometimes I’ll post something that I think is funny, but falls flat. So then I’ll boost it, just to see if it hits at all, or not.
BeAware :fediverse: repeated this.
