     @meeper @ruin perfect storm really, food quality and safety regulations are quite loose here, and there was a series of controversies here that led to McDs dropping ingredients (for example, beef tallow for the fries) that *used* to be used in order to make the food taste good, in favor of objectively worse "healthy" or "plant based" ingredients (the "you will live in a pod and you will eat the bugs" people actually have a point, even if they express it in close to the worst way possible)

     @pernia @ruin @meeper They can, yeah. In general tho esp if you're in the Midwest and you're going out to eat that's just one of the usual places you do it. In Michigan in particular they tend to be called Coney Islands and mostly run/staffed by ethnic Greeks so you regularly see stuff like gyros pop up on the menus.
