vertka (vertka@suya.place)'s status on Friday, 12-Jul-2024 03:18:47 JST vertka I still find it funny that some people debate about switching from Windows to GNU/Linux and one of their argument to not do it is that latter "requires tweaking in the system" like dude what the fuck are you talking about it’s the same thing on Windows but instead you need to remove bloat - meso likes this.

Mint is just Ubuntu without the bullshit so I'd always recommend that instead. -

I'm productive with it and it's stable/functional. It's especially good, I find, for laptops---notably, those with 2-in-1 functionality.
I am not a fan of whatsoever of Ubuntu nor Snaps. However, this conversation was regarding introducing normies away from Windows/macOS. I do not use Ubuntu, but Ubuntu was my first Linux experience years and years ago. It's still a safe bet for getting one's feet wet. @vertka@suya.place -

I never recommend Ubuntu to anyone. The snap situation is a pain and GNOME is like the worst DE known to man. -

Show them how to download software from one of the "stores" like Gnome Software or KDE Discover. Set it up so that they're just downloading Flatpacks. There's not much there that can go wrong or break. @vertka@suya.place

You can use something like Mint without even changing any configs at all. I got a couple of friends to switch over to Linux after modern Windows pissed them off lol. -
