How do under 18s who live independently or want to head off on adventures, manage? It seems to have become impossible to do anything until you are legally an adult. One minute, they're children, and the next, they're adults. How are they supposed to learn? We're keeping them in cotton wool till age 18 and then launching them into the world. No wonder so many get stressed.

@CloudyMrs In Scotland children become legal adults at 16.

@djm_black try and book any kind of accommodation at 16, and you'd be out of luck. My 18 year old is planning a few days away right now and her 17 and 10 month old friend can't go unless she takes her mum.

@JackTheCat No, absolutely not that. They do notice. We did this to them. Or we at least allowed it to happen.

@TCMuffin all very well, but what about if they want to go further from home? Apps don't allow under 18s to book anything.

@JackTheCat I've got two teens in the house. They and their pals definitely do want to do stuff on their own. They can't because absolutely everything has to be booked via an app, and the app won't allow under 18s to act on their own behalf. Some kids and plenty of adults definitely do spend their lives looking at mince on ticktock, but what is their alternative? How would 16 year old you do a tour of Scotland today?

@JackTheCat They aren't even allowed to pitch a tent on a site, as far as I can see. I'm sad about the experiences they are missing. Those first half arsed camping trips, where one member of the group always forgot their sleeping bag, or missed the bus, were such a lot of fun, and we were learning about life all the way.
