A camera that you plug into your computer. Like the camera itself, not some puny cable.
Yes, the whole camera goes into the computer because it is a camera and PC card!

@thomasfuchs I have two of these thinkpads, both working, but I could never figure out wtf fit in that slot. Thanks.
@drazraeltod @inlovewithpda His videos are awesome!
Also, I would say unless you seriously want to get into collecting and using these cameras there's really saner choices if you want an old digital camera to occasionally make snaps with.
@thomasfuchs @inlovewithpda that's the second camera that's mostly a pcmcia/pc-card that I hear about this week
that's two more than ever before!

@inlovewithpda @drazraeltod My favorite PDA for that purpose is the Palm Zire Z71 btw
@thomasfuchs @drazraeltod I do pictures on 640x480 with PDA cameras... So use useless is my kind of thing
@inlovewithpda @drazraeltod I've been looking for an (not ridiculously overpriced) eye module for the handspring for a while lol... one day!
@thomasfuchs @drazraeltod yes, have one here. Also the eye module for the visor is great
@inlovewithpda @drazraeltod kinda sad the Newton never saw a camera (that I know of)
@inlovewithpda @drazraeltod I have this too, haven’t been able to make it work (w/ palm iiic) because I don’t have a power adapter for the iiic (pending project)
@thomasfuchs @drazraeltod yes, would have been great
@thomasfuchs That sounds fast! I bet it has a lot more bandwidth than my Olympus camera that uses the serial port. 😔
@indigoparadox the theoretical max speed of PCMCIA (16-bit PC Card, based on ISA) is 8MB/s to 16MB/s (one-directional).
I don't know what speed the camera can maintain (it also has to read the data from the inserted SmartMedia card), but it really doesn't take more than a few seconds to transfer a full card of images even on my 1997 laptop.
@drazraeltod @inlovewithpda I like the Dell Axims for this reason: they have a CF slot and a SD slot
@thomasfuchs @inlovewithpda nah, thanks I'm good
had my contacts with such cameras back when they were new-ish
Best was the (VGA) CF-Camera I bought for my Jornada 520… would have been a decent idea if it wouldn't have blocked the CF-slot you'd need for storage. (same with the wifi cards in the same format)
@Nentuaby @thomasfuchs that still seems like a lot of stress on a small plastic hinge
@moira @thomasfuchs Honestly it's a pretty good design for the tech of the era. PC card was way ahead of any of the "peripheral" ports.
@thomasfuchs i have so many _whu?!_ here
so many
