It lowers the rate of evaporation. Thus, sweating is less effective as a cooling mechanism.

@lpheathen2 @WhiteAmericanEskimo Couldn't agree more, but gotta make do with what I have. Certain .. equipment .. piece within easy reach helps. But it's not so much the heat here as it is the humidity. This is an island, after all, and the southern shore is the Atlantic ocean.

@WhiteAmericanEskimo @lpheathen2 I don't have the genetics to handle 95% humidity. This is why I keep longing looking at those islands north of Canada.

@Dagnar @WhiteAmericanEskimo I would also say that current house design is not set up to not have airflow to cool the house off without AC. also, kinda dangerous with niggers about to have unlocked windows

@Dagnar @lpheathen2 Have you tried doing whatever people did through all of human history prior to the Era of air conditioning? Perhaps toil in the fields, or raid a distant village via longboat or just grab a peasant girl and drag her to your bed. Any of those would probably help you sleep.

@lpheathen2 I'd enjoy it better if I got some actual sleep and not waking up after an hour drenched in sweat.

@Dagnar brother, I know the feeling. I don’t sleep well as is, if I lose power for an extended period of time with no AC, I get to being real cranky.
I’m going to guess no AC right now?

@Xenophon @Humpleupagus @Dagnar @WhiteAmericanEskimo he’s not wrong. I’m sure that’s a premium in states that don’t already have it as a standard part of the house.

@Humpleupagus @lpheathen2 @Dagnar Here's a trick: get in bed and put a midly wet bed sheet over you as the window fan blows on you. You will feel chilled quickly. The peasant girl will appreciate it also.

As a kid growing up without air conditioning in the Texas heat, my siblings and I would do something similar, but better. We'd set a box fan on the floor with a couple of cinder blocks for stabilization. Then we'd take a slightly wet bed sheet and duct tape it around the fan and set it to High. It billowed out like a tent. It was a good 15 degrees cooler inside there.
