@mattblaze I suspect it was the word "literally" that @MiriShuli identified as troublesome. It is unfortunate how often people read tone into a text format that is practically impossible to inflect tone into. I think the world could be a better place if we all allowed each other more grace and gave the benefit of the doubt. Most people truly are trying to be the best person they can be.

Miriam (mirishuli@mstdn.social)'s status on Tuesday, 09-Jul-2024 05:28:08 JST Miriam @mattblaze You need to research what happens at the state level, especially in GA and NV. There are rules about who won the primary and what happens if someone withdraws. It’s my understanding that in either one or both of those states there would be no on on the Democratic ticket.

Matt Blaze (mattblaze@federate.social)'s status on Tuesday, 09-Jul-2024 05:28:09 JST Matt Blaze Note that I am *not* expressing an opinion one way or the other about what should happen here, because I don't yet know enough about the underlying facts of the situation.
But the argument that it's "legally impossible" to change the Democratic (or Republican) ticket at this point is factually false.

Matt Blaze (mattblaze@federate.social)'s status on Tuesday, 09-Jul-2024 05:28:10 JST Matt Blaze There are practical and political arguments against replacing Biden on the general election ticket. There are also practical and political arguments *for* doing so.
However, it is *not* the case that it is LEGALLY "too late" to change the ticket. The nominating conventions for major parties are held before every state's ballot deadline. Here's a summary of each state's laws, from the National Association of Secretaries of State (the people who run the elections).
