@Pagan_Animist @woozle — that’s because to believe it is an opinion means that equal rights and justice are not required for a healthy productive life. To make these things OPINIONS make these things OPTIONAL for minority groups, and that is a plain LIE. That’s why you can’t accept it as an opinion.

Just because everyone here is neurodivergent doesn’t mean we can all communicate or think in the same ways. I have a ton of philosophy knowledge and experience constantly doing thought experiments. I’m the type of neurodivergent that has a model of the universe in his head to do experiments in. What is easy and apparent to me is mystical/magical to others -

It *feels* nearly there.Neurodivergent minds (like mine) are sometimes a little weird.
It’s like trying to describe the taste of green.

Categorize things as necessary for good mental health and well-being or as optional or not required for that wellbeing.
You will see that equal rights and justice are necessary, not optional.
When people say that it is an opinion, they are obfuscating the fact that they don’t believe rights are for everyone and are not necessary for those minority groups. -

Unlike Christian belief that what you are is what you believe in your heart, atheist belief is about action.
Opinions are beliefs that have no real impact on others. Pineapple on pizza is gross to me but people who like it are not showing me that they would hurt or injure me based on my deference. -

What I didn’t understand is why you chose (to my mind) those *arbitrary* values for the nebulous construct “opinion.”
Because to some people opinions can be *very odd* things, as we know.
Those parameters simply don’t apply so yours is just another construct?
Please, for goodness’s sake don’t take offense at the workings of my brain. I can’t help it. 🌻 I’m just trying to explain how it’s working.

Church of Jeff (jeffowski@mastodon.world)'s status on Tuesday, 09-Jul-2024 03:36:49 JST Church of Jeff @Pagan_Animist @woozle — these “opinions” about equal rights and justice are not harmless. They impact the real world. They allow people to keep their bigotry and still be allowed to be part of society and cause harm in their daily interactions with others, right up to their vote. Discussions with people about semantics and definitions and not the real meat of the issue only enforce and keep this bigotry alive. It allows people to “have their opinions” of bigotry veiled
