   Bring back indirect injection diesels.
   
   Small orifice between the pre-chamber and the cylinder -> less shock-load on pistons, rods, crank -> thinner more light-weight materials -> Light weight diesel
   
   Insulated pre-chamber -> gets hot -> vaporizes fuel as it is injected -> better burn
   
   Lower pressure injectors -> lower cost, higher reliability, better tolerance for substandard or contaminated fuel

     This is how the large diesel engines operated on the railways, when I was graduating in 1986.
     
     Since then this has changed, probably, by turbo or by a better way to maintain not only the combustion hotspot but also the vapor injection.
