@oddtail For what it's worth, I more or less exclusively interact with people in the manner your describe, and the person who told you that wasn't "normal" sounds unhelpful at best.

Tattie (tattie@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Sunday, 07-Jul-2024 05:12:33 JST Tattie @HauntedOwlbear I never said it was "not normal". The words I used were "not common".
I do in fact have some friends who like to reach out to me 1:1, and that's normal to them and I love them for it. But most people I know never would unless they specifically needed to ask me something. 🤷♀️

I think this is probably a chat the two of you need to have without strangers watching, if that's what you both want.

Tattie (tattie@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Sunday, 07-Jul-2024 06:23:21 JST Tattie @HauntedOwlbear no, it's good. I'm happy for this to be a general conversation, especially if it helps @oddtail find people who prefer to communicate/socialise like her.
Just please believe me that the original conversation came from a place of compassion and was never intended as judgment! I'm autistic myself and try never to fling around words like "normal". ❤️

Different neuroatypical modes of communication can definitely complicate things.
Personally, I find busy chatrooms quite overwhelming due to their speed, and also the way channels are used in many modern applications vs IRC, for example.
I'm not always very outgoing, but I definitely prefer one to one or very small groups.

Tattie (tattie@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Sunday, 07-Jul-2024 06:56:45 JST Tattie @HauntedOwlbear oh yeah, I definitely prefer smaller groups and less busy chats.
And while l rarely reach out to someone 1:1, I frequently enjoy such conversations when they do happen.
