Me: oh look a new browser engine, that sounds promising; here’s hoping it’s not yet another douchebro project…

@petit_suisse There’s no such thing as “purely technical.” When someone tells you they’re not political, they’re telling you that only their own ideology is welcome.

      @aral

I don't agree with you on this one. He's right and in his rights . This is the same lame BS than tone policing.

This is a purely technical project, period.
The day he would reject a contrib because of too trans flag emoji... mayyyyybe but until then.

I'm more annoyed by the usage of discord than this. :)

The fediverse is large enough - and polluted enough - that they can't even leave a technical project free of this, seriously?

@aral TLDR: all views are good if they align with mine...

😮💨 Seriously... We should all start to have social courses at uni no matter the branch / speciality we follow...

@aral well, the idea of that team is that they are building a browser (#ladybird) for anyone regardless of their political opinion, seems quite legit to me.
If I'm making a tool (idk, a can opener), I may just want the tool to work, just make it not suck rather than do 10 things uncorrelated to the project (cough #firefox).
I'd rather people to contribute code or bug reports (on a can opener yes yes) that goes in this direction than people to tell me that the tool should also have a program to plant trees, limit immigration, or anything from any political side.
I'm not saying politics are not important, it's literally "the fact of living together", and being social creatures, living together is quite important. But you also have the right to do something that has no political agenda. And you should not be criticized for that especially when you are working on an open source project, willing to do good in this world.

@chepycou If a browser isn’t political why do we need multiple ones? Chrome exists. It’s fast, works well, and is universally supported. Everyone should just use that.

Sounds like #ladybird are being political by recreating a tool that already exists. Unless… are you saying that the whole project is political to begin with?

      🤔

(Again, there is no such thing as “no political agenda”. At best, your technology is just uncritically perpetuating the dominant political agenda.)

@chepycou Why is data collection bad? Sounds political to me.

Ads are the mainstay of the mainstream business model of the web. Do you oppose them? If so, this is a non-political space – please take your anti-ad activism elsewhere.

We only care about code here.

Can you show me source code that justifies making an alternative to Chrome? Maybe an algorithm that isn’t optimised properly? Or some core bugs? (Chromium is open source so the non-political way would be to contribute.)

@aral it's exactly the fact that chrome sucks (in terms of data collected, ad blocking etc), not their political leaning that turns away most people
