I can't figure out why let anyone from gab join their instances at all. If you're so worried about maintaining certain constants, close it down and make it invitation only ffs. Make it so someone who wants to join your instance needs one or two people vouching for them who are in good standing. If you need more money, then the community you have needs to love your community more.

@notabnormal Expectations of learning the lay of the land before diving in used to be the norm in internet communities. In this way, fedi is just a RETVRN TØ TRÆDITIØN.

I just need to find a niche forum for one of my hobbies or intrigues and then I'll have my jollies and be right again. I'm trying to use a screwdriver as a hammer here, I think.

@notabnormal Maybe so. You can literally just pick a topic you're into an post about it and people will reply and repost if they like it. There's plenty of people here into cars, DIY, knives, guns, bushcraft and hobo engineering, homesteading, gardening, sowing, chemistry and biology, Chinese cartoons, history, music, art, religion, etc. Just pick a thing and run with it brother.

@mousewaffen @notabnormal Also true. There's stuff I'm way into that I don't post about for reasons as well, including opsec. So it goes.

That all sounds great. Glad that happened for you. Wish I was more internet savvy back in '16 and then I could've just been an og fedizen lol.

This so much. You would never expect people here to actually like X or Y, but they do and eventually you will find the way to them or they will find their way to you.
Never expected some idiotic drawings would allow me to me such amazing people. And then they tell you to not talk to strangers on the internet

@notabnormal @Morghur Maybe write an effort post about finding a particular hidden trail, how and where hat you like about it etc.

I'd get more happy brain juices from joining or starting a small thing for amateur nature photography and sharing sneaky hiking trails that aren't yet completely grown over. That'd be a more gratifying and worthwhile venture for me, I think. There used to be this website for hikers where you could share trails but it was ruthlessly exclusive to keep shitty people out of the best nature spots. The guy who ran the website gave me a permanent free membership because I helped him find a few caves he had only heard about but had never been able to find.

Ooh, I have a good one about a trail that goes to a very secluded waterfall where tiny White frogs hop around. I have never seen this species of frogs described or mentioned anywhere. I'll never tell anyone where that waterfall is so long as I live and I'll probably never go back. I'd have to find it by memory and there is no trail.

I'm not big on hiking, but i love nature a lot. I go out for walks around here along the river and the coast and i enjoy going early and see white herons, sea ravens and coast falcons around. I even managed to see a cran once but it flew when i started to get close.
