      @mangeurdenuage @kaia @schappi Almost like "web technology innovation" is mostly a dead end.

      @Natanox @kaia @schappi It's reinventing the wheel. Why in gods name would you reimplement the software layer in the web browser ?

      Oh right, it's corporates who did that to remove the user filter so they don't directly have to filter and install software they don't like as it's disguised as a website instead of an installer, thus bypassing any sane firewall ruling etc...

      @jesu Serverless means that there is a server you need to pay to access, but you won't be informed of its existence (only that it's some magical cloud) or given any control over that server.

      Pure p2p networks is where everything is a client and a server - which works fine for certain protocols and is made easy is every client is on IPv6 and not made unreachable by a firewall.

      @Natanox @kaia @schappi @mangeurdenuage I really need to know, does serverless mean "everything is a client and a server, the lines are blurred, ip6, yada yada?"

      @jesu @kaia @schappi @mangeurdenuage We'd save even more and gain autonomy and privacy if we'd go multicast with serverless services where ever it's possible.

      @mangeurdenuage @kaia @schappi @Natanox we'd use less power collectively if client-side rendering died a fiery death

      @mangeurdenuage @jesu @Natanox @schappi @kaia There's a tradeoff between space and compute though.

      AVIF is definitely a lot heavier to decode, but it also /significantly/ smaller than the average JPEG with minimal visible degradation.

      (JPEG XL is not the average JPEG and I have not evaluated it.)

      @jesu @kaia @schappi @Natanox Indeed. The processing power needed to show text and images have only grown as it should have somewhat stagnated at some point.

      As always, the advances of miniaturization have been nullified by the decadence of software bloat.
