     one of the big dumbs of the USSR was thinking they were going to outproduce the west's slave-based production system with socialism. there was no way that can ever work because the west relies on an underclass to produce goods below value where socialism isn't supposed to have an underclass.

     @icedquinn But if you can be nice and ESG friendly and get X amount of prosperity for your own people, but you could also be ruthless and mean and get X+10 amount of prosperity for your people aren't you betraying your people if you accept anything other than X+10? I think so. I expect my leaders to look out for ME, not foreigners.

     @jesu @caekislove there are a lot of theories of morality.
     
     but completely subjugating another populace is a pretty common way to keep the bread and circus going. though proper imperialism requires some of those spoils go to the subjects.
     
     the problem with america is its a big helping of imperialist welfare for a group of elites and then its just sort of sacked on to a population of survive at all costs on your own while we try to loot you too.

     @caekislove @icedquinn the question is wether that money is even making it to the populace in question or if it's being diverted through various means like inflation, also whether X+10 is even desirable. If increasing the suffering in the world for the benefit of one populace is the goal, I'm unsure if that person should even be considered morally capable of being a leader--not that any of them are.

     @jesu this is why it seems like landed power is marginally less of a problem than fungible power.
     
     you can't pump and dump the kingdom when your duchy title is glued to the land. there is no "market exit." you can't just cash out and be duke somewhere else.

     @icedquinn and that's the thing, this "maximize monetary growth" thing is kind of the problem, no one stops at "good enough" or reaches "healthy society," almost as if they don't want to. It's nice to have the populace fighting each other over petty things like politics, wealth disparity, racial differences, etc., than actually provide the populace a better life.

     there were mainstream media documentaries about almost none of the aid makes it to the front. or biden's internet and EV programs costing billions and delivering zero new ISP endpoints and seven whole EV chargers. :ablobcatgooglytenor:
