niconiconi (niconiconi@mk.absturztau.be)'s status on Saturday, 05-Nov-2022 08:26:17 JST niconiconi @puniko @feli@mk.paritybit.ca Now you know how GPS works in China. Due to the security-through-obscurity military stupidity, map coordinates are classified as national-security information. It's illegal to provide maps with accurate coordinates without a license. All the longitudes and latitudes in public maps have pseudorandom random offsets added per regulation, we call it "Mars Coordinates". When you use a GPS, all locations are off by a street or so. Domestic devices add the same pseudorandom random offsets to the raw GPS data so two wrongs make a right.

niconiconi (niconiconi@mk.absturztau.be)'s status on Saturday, 05-Nov-2022 09:10:10 JST niconiconi @puniko @feli@mk.paritybit.ca What's more ridiculous is that satellites images are not technically "maps", so Real coordinates are permitted, so much for "national security"... Meanwhile 2D maps must use Mars coordinates. Since only one type of coordinates get logged by a tracker, it's often impossible to get your GPS track to match on 2D & 3D maps. :blobcatfacepalm:
And needless to say, the pseudorandom algorithm has been reverse engineered and you can find it straight in Wikipedia.Puniko ? likes this. -

niconiconi (niconiconi@mk.absturztau.be)'s status on Saturday, 05-Nov-2022 09:25:27 JST niconiconi @puniko @feli@mk.paritybit.ca By the same laws and regulations in China, it's also illegal to contribute data to OpenStreetMaps. If you're doing so, it's technically the same crime committed by the many foreign spies arrested for mapping without a license. Nevertheless, there are still contributors here. :blobcatlul:
