While #COVID19 risks in Milwaukee remain fairly modest, in two weeks, we'll host one of the largest US superspreader events of 2024: The RNC. Around 50,000 conventioneers, media, and protesters will descend on the city, including from places with high COVID viral spread. And these will include the most vehemently anti-vax, least COVID-cautious, highest-risk people in the nation. (1/4)

As many as a thousand people will arrive in Milwaukee infected with #COVID19. They'll infect others on the trip here, and they'll spread infections in convention halls, restaurants, and events. They'll be sick, and they won't care--it will not stop them from participating in loud, crowded events. They won't just infect each other but will spread the new immune-evasive summer variants to local residents. Then they'll go home, leaving a wave of infections behind in our city. (2/4)

I'd strongly urge some caution if you plan to attend any events or visit crowded spaces in mid-July or after in Milwaukee. Masks on in crowds, or stick to smaller, private, and outdoor socializing. I know many think #COVID19 is a mild acute illness. They're wrong, and that misunderstanding could cost them or those they love their health and wellbeing for months, years, or a lifetime. (3/4)

It's bad enough we have to combat the GOP virus at the polls in November. If you live in or around Milwaukee, don't take the risks lightly and make the GOP virus a chronic health problem for you or those you love.

@fmhilton That's good, but remember: We're all one degree of separation from someone who may have to work at an RNC event or will find themselves sharing air with RNC conventioneers in bars, restaurants, or events. I fear this will be a bigger risk for Wisconsinites in the month following the RNC than people may realize.

@Methylcobalamin True, but flu and RSV risks are low, and avian flu isn't (yet) spreading between humans. COVID is surging now and is by far the greatest viral threat at this event.

I was thinking of venereal diseases. Republican conventions have a reputation for being "job creators" for the local sex workers.
