#Decentralisation does NOT mean the whole #Fediverse should block #threads. Decentralisation means that every instance (and user) decides for themselves with whom to exchange communication. While this might look like chaos and a non-deterministic way of sharing information, it reflects the true nature of decentralisation. If you think it should be a binary decision of The Fediverse to not talk to Threads, you are still in the centralised mindset ...

@sesivany Why I think that the #fediverse should be a collection of many, many "not many users" instances with a close connection between users and admins instead of an oligopoly of a few big instances with glorified admins that operate in the dark, reason #4711 ;)

@jwildeboer It could be seen as a good thing by us, seasoned Fediverse users, but it will never be seen as a good thing by ordinary users simply because it's not good experience. They just wanna be in touch with friends. Your friend suddenly disappears because they happen to be on an instance that violated something. There is no transparency, no obvious way to appeal. The friend is just gone.

@sesivany I block several hundred of instances, as do most other instances too. The ActivityPub protocol sees this a s a feature. It is perfectly fine to have islands with only a few bridges (think intranet fediverse, organisation/group specific instances that do not want to communicate with the Big Fediverse). The problem for many is understanding that this a good thing ...

@jwildeboer what do you think of instances that block other instances just because they don't block Threads? That seems like the point where the Fediverse really disintegrates.
