d (deprecated_ii@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 27-Jun-2024 12:30:35 JST d this is fuckin genius
the silver ring dealio helps contain the oil and the thermometer goes through it so it's at a convenient viewing angle and not awkwardly clipped on the pot-

The factor seasoning coat doesn't help either. There's some YouTube videos of people looking into cast iron pans and they used to all be smoother. Probably cheaper tooling or it was done to replicate pitting on the 80 year old one grandma had. You can just hit them with a wire wheel and compound to get it smooth. -

d (deprecated_ii@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 27-Jun-2024 12:30:33 JST d @brokeassredneck @pinemarten lots of people use lodge and like it. it's certainly very affordable
personally I think their stuff is way too rough finished, so I spend the time to smooth the cooking surface out. I have a lodge 5 qt dutch oven that I like but it was about an hour of work with power tools to get it where I wanted it -

d (deprecated_ii@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 27-Jun-2024 12:41:08 JST d @BowsacNoodle @brokeassredneck @pinemarten I use an angle grinder with a strip disc to do the bulk of the work, then finish with sandpaper
strip discs are nice because they're cheap and forgivingIn conversation permalink Attachments
