   Sort of a weird question: is anybody trying to make #Friendica look pretty? A recurring conversation that @damon and I have is that the platform is pretty solid, and the project is healthy, but the UI is generally just not great.

   I think it would be fun to do some mockups and try to ship a better, more user-friendly theme. I think people look at it sometimes and get turned off, which is a bummer. Friendica is super underrated.

     @lightone @deadsuperhero This is correct. Also the fact there’s no local API that would allow independent UI frontends. As a result the UI is currently heavily coupled with the backend. The third pain point is Friendica’s feature breadth which makes any new UI initiative costly upfront.

     We even added new feature since the last new theme was created about 10 years ago, so any new effort would have to take these into account in bulk.

     @deadsuperhero I believe the main issue is the lack of a frontend developer on the team. All core members specialize in backend development and are focused on functionality rather than design.

     @hypolite @lightone makes sense. I had been considering the possibility of developing a custom Friendica theme, but it’s probably pretty difficult to start from scratch.
