   TIL I don't have the following to crowdsource a question so throwing up an ask for a boost here to help out from @ActionRetro or @mac84tv

   Got my daughter her first retro computer at the VCF Swap Meet - it's a silver-front G4 running Tiger. (It's old TO HER.)

   Problem is I'm a lifelong PC user. I've only ever used OS X at work. So does anybody have any recs for OS X software that would be fun for a kid to explore?

     @mausmalone I would say browse MacintoshGarden.org and explore. You can also install Mac OS 9 and find loads of other titles: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-922-powermac-g4-mdd

     Specific recommendations for games would depend on what they’re into.

     However, there are loads of educational titles and non-violent games, Cro-mag Rally, Bugdom, The Sims, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Kid Pix are a few that come to mind.

     @mausmalone FYI - Mac OS 9 can be installed as a bootable option on _most/all_MDD systems and offers full graphics acceleration. It can also be installed as sort of a VM (Classic Environment) where it may struggle to play anything too fancy. If your G4 has a FireWire 800 port on it you may need a modified MacOS9Lives install disc.

     USB booting is kinda hacky on these PowerPC Macs, so when possible burn a CD to make your life easier. Have fun!

     @mausmalone okey dokey. Thankfully most IDE “PC” drives will just work, however burning discs via iTunes of iDVD may throw errors or warnings on non-Apple drives on a stock install. Adaptec/Roxio Toast or Disk Utility should burn discs okay though. (You can always burn them elsewhere too obviously).

     @mac84tv Yeah .. the ask for OS X software was specifically because the optical drive turned out to be dead so I couldn't install OS 9 from the restore discs.

     I /did/ manage to get Classic Environment installed through NetBoot late last night, but installing bootable OS 9.2.2 to a second volume is going to have to wait for a bit.
