     @tom I am profoundly aware of the fact that a vast percentage of my spits economic activity is a complete waste of everyone's time and resources.

     What's even more galling is that the stuff I do for free - or for which I get paid but the rights immediately enter the commons (in the case of one gig with an open source initiative) - is generally far more socially useful.

     @eniko Now we need to persuade every other fucker that it's time to do the same.

     (I hold up my hands for the stuff I could be doing better on, like this year's excess travel, but also I spend 98% of my time within 15km of my home, mostly just at home, working on small low-resource projects.)

     @tom Very true.

     Also hands-on stuff like making food for community fundraisers, helping kids learn to swim, or making art for festivals in our village, though. Almost all that stuff is volunteer driven, and it's conspicuously more useful than what a lot of those volunteering get paid for the rest of the time.
