   unironically curious how much money is stolen from the economy with artificially high rents within cities.
   
   would probably have to ask a bunch of people what their rent is, then compute how much building maintenence is on average, to determine how much money would be returned to society if we guillotined all the landlord rentseekers :blobcatgooglybadumtss:

     @TheMadPirate this brain worm started because a class i was taking mentioned rent, and the other night people talking about clubs having to pass their rent on to ticket prices.
     
     which leads to the realization that landlords are burgling the shit out of the young with 50% of their income going to rent payments right now, on top of fucking the entire city on the other end because the companies just pass it down to the product prices.
     
     which leads to the question: are landlords the reason why everything in the USA cost out the ass?

     @neo yeah but its parasited on both ends; the rent for the grocery store is passed down on to the cost of your groceries too. so you're getting fucked both ways by landlords

     @icedquinn@blob.cat rent is like $1400 or so a month now for a 2 bedroom apartment in a bad part of town
     literally in 2019-2020 it was $950
