My advice on Chomsky is read Manufacturing Consent, the Fateful Triangle, and On Anarchism - then forget he exists because his value to you will have been exhausted if you were paying attention to the books you just read at all.

Chomsky's earlier books (especially Manufacturing Dissent and Fateful Triangle) did a lot to make me into an Indy Leftist.
It also, paradoxically taught me the beauty of questioning authority in all manners, which is how I escaped from too much worship of his later work and his devolution into sheepdogging for the liberal duopoly.
