   Something I've noticed.

   PHD students feel a HUGE pressure to 'have all the answers' or know everything in the questions after a talk. This is the main reason many are terrified of Q&A.

   This is ridiculous and we've got to create a cultre where it is ok to not know.

     @d_yellowlees @ColinTheMathmo Well, no one has “all the answers” on anything - that’s impossible.

     But if you put yourself forward as an expert on a topic, you really do need to be able to answer questions on that topic.

     @d_yellowlees "having the answers" is not the point of a Q&A (despite the name). Having an informed opinion is the point. "I think X because Y", sort of thing.
