   As a former manager of a single screen mom-and-pop theater all I have to say is that Deluxe/Technicolor are such greedy assholes. If you want to get a film within the first four weeks that it's out you have to give up 90% of your ticket sales to the distributors. If you want a 50/50 split or better you have to wait like 2 months. It was always a major gamble on what to wait for and what to actually get right away. They also make these BS rules like; our movie is the only film that can be shown on any given screen. Meaning if we wanted to do an early and late show, we couldn't. You're forced to only play one movie for weeks! Once that got more common the business basically died. The biggest insult is that the theaters have to pay for movie posters. We're already giving them all the sales, and then they have the gall to ask theaters to pay for the movie's advertising too? Are you fucking kidding me?

   So basically yeah, the movie industry is murdering itself by refusing to change, specifically, refusing to change to be less scummy.

     @graf They just don't understand that for a lot of younger people, they have a lot of entertainment choices and they will not miss movie theaters. They are in fact in competition.

     @Bunsen @sun i've been maybe 6 times in as many years. mostly joker (2019), some anime movies and other misc with poast friends, one or two with the gf (small private cinema not corpo type)

     the boomer managers in the industry are still trying to operate as if the entire business is still as active as it was 20 years ago.
     Those cunts cant adapt beyond "lets scam even harder" because people fucking *love* paying more for less and of consistently worsen quality.

     @sun I want to see the movie industry utterly collapse so faggy auteurs like these guys can break away and reorient themselves around something else for a little while.

     I generally vibe with most people's hyperfixation hobbies, but movie lovers really bother me. It's the faux snootiness, they're more self-important than the guys reading old latin books because they watched 500 hours of obscure foreign slop this year.

     RLM hasn't done much to make me think they don't fall into that basket - they love movies but failed to break in and create, so they're stuck on the outside looking in, bitter about missed opportunities and too blind to realize they won the career lottery being at the right place at the right time

     (similar to youtuber heavy water poisoning or whatever I called it before)

     @sun I guess, they're just a mystery to me where the myth far, FAR eclipses the quality they deliver. They have a crazy amount of audience goodwill for some reason, but when you look at the actual content it's blase, bored, begrudging patreon filler

     They're tired of it, they aren't happy in life, they didn't wanna be here, but it's all they got so they have to keep going because nobody will hire them with 20 years of youtubing on their resume. Many such cases!

     @WashedOutGundamPilot well you are right, they haven't been any good for at least a year. But I go back and watch their old videos sometimes and some of them are just a ton of fun.
     
     What I meant by my previous comment is that they're moderately intelligent and insightful but the other stuff they do is a real entertainment value-add (well, used to be.)
     
     I think they are just plain getting old and just plain running out of fun+shitty movies.

     @Paultron @WashedOutGundamPilot you're right but a significant portion of RLM is not doing what those people do, and making fun of them. They had a whole series of videos called "Nerd Crew" that so effectively shit on "Collider" that they accused RLM of harassment.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @sun the thing about movie enjoyers is that as a hobby (and identity) it is purely consumptive. you talk to them and you get movie guy viewpoints which are manufactured in a south california hebrew den then disseminated for mass distribution by some of the worst corpos on earth. you talk to the guy who builds little plastic models or hikes up mountains or even listens to music (similar to movies) and you're gonna get that guy's opinions. even when movie guys have deliberate opinions carefully crafted to specifically *not* be hollywood opinions, they tend to be RLM opinions scraped off youtube. there's no new ground to break by talking about his hobby because it was all recorded and shown on a screen to a million people

     @sun I'm not the guy to ask about them, not a fan of the whole "watch shitty movies with friends" scene. It's cool in high school but something you have to grow out of at some point. I cannot stand it today, It's a pretty common thing where I'll work with a guy for a trip and he wants to watch bad movies at the hotel, and listen to the "funny" (nagging, politically correct whining) podcasts about it.

     But I'm a curmudgeon, something really grosses me out about washed-up has-been/never-were's making a whole career out of mockery and critique when they haven't proven mastery of the medium to begin with. I've seen reference to their silly homage work but that's a far cry from a genuine masterpiece.

     Real "valley of the dolls" or whatever that thing was

     @WashedOutGundamPilot okay, I think this one is a fair criticism. I'm sorry if I sounded defensive. it's just one of the few pieces of media I still watch and enjoy. for what they do they're the best at it but if you hate the entire genre then yeah you're not going to like them.

     i wonder how much of its reception was colored by seething hollywood bugmen who were dunked on my RLM in the past
