@ocdtrekkie "1250 Mbps downloads/35 Mbps uploads" ugh that's still better upload than my current one, but I hate being pinched like that

One other upside is that Xfinity speed tiers are a "maximum" and Comcast Business speed tiers are a "minimum". Business service will exceed the labeled speed pretty much all the time. Note however that while Business can install in your "home office", they cannot install TV, so if you need that, you end up with Xfinity for TV and Comcast Business for Internet (and no bundle pricing).

ocdtrekkie (ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 10-Jun-2024 04:20:16 JST ocdtrekkie @aeva Comcast Business. Costs *way* more but they categorically screw with you less than a residential plan. We have someone working full time from home so the reliability is worth it.

aeva (aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place)'s status on Monday, 10-Jun-2024 04:20:16 JST aeva @ocdtrekkie fascinating! I didn't think to see if I could get a business line hooked up at home :O I looked into them once because I was DONE with astound, and almost pulled the trigger on their "unlimited plan" until I read the fine print and realized I'd blow over their data cap every month if I went with them. How much is the business plan if you don't mind me asking?

ocdtrekkie (ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 10-Jun-2024 04:20:18 JST ocdtrekkie @aeva We just dropped them at home, and my work just dropped a plan with them because they've been unable to address a service issue for literal months.
They also just introduced a new ToS change, FYI if you consider leaving, that they will bill you the full month even if you cancel say... two days after your statement date. Plan accordingly.

aeva (aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place)'s status on Monday, 10-Jun-2024 04:20:20 JST aeva My ISP doesn't believe in "pager duty" or "uptime", so sometimes the internet just goes down in the middle of the night. I like to think that what happens every morning is Bob comes into the office, power cycles the office Linksys, and then the internet for half of Chicago comes back on again. When the internet goes down for multiple days it is because Bob is out sick.

aeva (aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place)'s status on Monday, 10-Jun-2024 06:07:04 JST aeva You might think having private equity run an ISP is a bad idea, but you'd be surprised at how much money you save when your entire customer support staff is a phone maze that goes nowhere and a twitter bot that asks you to provide account details and then says the outage is the customer's fault. They're figuring out how to get rid of Bob, but they're still vigorously debating every board meeting whether or not they can retain customers if they stop providing internet entirely.
