Defederation is a security feature as well as a personal decision. "Block" is a similar feature and function for each individual Mastodon account. Is this redundant? I've not set up an instance yet. Do all servers federate by default? Should block / mute be temporary by default with greater time period options?

I understand the difference between federation and block. I just wonder if more options in the time duration should be considered as well as a "unity" or "addition" focus on the overall social Fediverse rather than "subtraction". It's possible for everyone to block everyone, thus making the concept of social media pointless IMHO.

Content filters are important. Perhaps block and mute should only be temporary with aggressive content controls?
