@newt @ivesen @privateger @MiaWinter they split the 220 phase into two 110 phases, most devices run off 110 but stuff that does require more power (i.e. AC) runs on two phases instead of phase + neutral, i.e. 220

@hj @newt it's actually 120V single phase and 208V line voltage
similarly in europe we have 230V single phase 400V line voltage (on newer constructions at least)

@ivesen @newt well all of those are nominal values and they do vary. Like metro and trams tends to run on 750V DC but actual line voltage is about 825V, it just to account for the drop when all the vehicles start consuming it.
