@drewdevault@fosstodon.org I live in Emmen which is technically speaking just barely within 2 hours of driving of Amsterdam on a good day.
Rent is relatively cheap here and housing is available but then again nobody wants to live here.
@drewdevault@fosstodon.org Maybe have a look: https://www.start-box.nl/woningaanbod/huur
But you probably consider it too far away.
@k decent intro here: https://www.theguardian.com/news/article/2024/may/06/netherlands-amsterdam-next-level-housing-crisis
From my view on the ground, we have been searching for two months, have applied for about 80 apartments, have spent a few hundred euros on predatory fees just to submit requests for viewings, and so far we have... a grand total of zero replies
Dual income household making 5x in gross salary against the rents we've been applying for
@drewdevault 🫣 have not done research no
@k I don't think you understand just how bad NL is compared to everywhere else
@drewdevault I think its like that everywhere :(
The housing market is absolutely bonkers in this country
@k each apartment listing website requires prospective tenants to pay for a monthly subscription of 20-30 euro before they can apply or even contact landlords and request viewings. There are 10+ websites like this
@drewdevault @ashtardeza It is really incredible that you jave trouble finding stuff within 2 hours of Amsterdam, considering that covers almost every city in NL. I guess it really does show how fucked up it is for our northern neighbours. (Belgian here)
@drewdevault yeah, it's horrible.
I'm not sure how wide you're casting your net, but a place like Assen has a 1 hour 45 minute train transit to Amsterdam, and should have slightly more sane housing prices.
It's pretty far outside the Randstad though.
@ashtardeza starting to look at Antwerp and... wow, it's much better
