Why do Bluesky users keep doing this (using their centralized "placeholder" DID)? It makes the system even more centralized than it would otherwise be. And it's already pretty centralised _de facto_.
@light thanks for explaining this. On the app GUI they only offer the plc option. I can understand it as an attempt to walk the line between laying decentralized groundwork but also making the onramps as accessible as possible.
@ntnsndr I don't really understand the point in using a supposedly decentralised system if everyone's just going to use the same identity server run by the developers.
@ntnsndr There are two DID methods that ATProto supports: did:web, that allows you to host your own DID document using a webserver and not be beholden to anyone; and did:plc, where all DID documents are hosted on a single centralised server, https://plc.directory/
