    Question for security-minded people:

How are you handling video calls in light of Win 11 Recall / Copilot?

I do not consent to other people randomly recording me. How on earth do I vet everyone's operating systems for work calls?

Right now I am angry & thus not framing the question elegantly. For the love of all that's holy, do not lecture me about asking the wrong question or in the wrong way.

If you have mandatory work call, how are you handling this yourself?

@ShaulaEvans urgh, it hadn't even occurred to me that simebof my Signal contacts must use Win 11, but of course some will.
This is a lowkey maximalist version of the compromised client scenario Naomi Wu warned us about.

Related thought: I guess now Signal app and any other encrypted message systems are no longer functionally secure if the person I am communicating with happens to be running Signal on desktop with Windows 11 / Recall / Copilot.

      DAMMIT.

The best workaround I can think of is to switch from text to voice notes as much as possible.

I cannot articulate how much I hate this.

@not2b that's something. Let's hope this nonsense blows over before it becomes widespread.

(That said, at least one of my clients that I'm aware of is shipping shiny new NPU equipped hardware to staff in the near future, so this optimism doesn't necessarily help in my personal situation.)

@HauntedOwlbear Windows 11 will not have Recall unless the machine has an expensive NPU. The machine has to meet the requirements of a so called Copilot+ machine, and even high end Intel and AMD machines don't. I can't think of why people would shell out the money for this feature.

@warrows @ShaulaEvans she had a grim time with the authorities over the warning I mentioned - https://www.hackingbutlegal.com/p/naomi-wu-and-the-silence-that-speaks-volumes - but has most recently taken over the reins of The Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen -
