Couldn't figure out why he came in out of nowhere to steal the candidacy from Warren and Sanders...it's so Trump would have a weaker opponent to face. That's why the delay in all of his trials. They mean to do it. Really.
@Adam_Cadmon1 Can’t quite go with you there. Yes, I am fairly certain that Biden’s candidacy was fueled in part by people who balked at the prospect of Warren or Sanders taxing the rich more.
I am also fairly certain that, looking at the actual election outcome and not just vibes from my social circle, either Warren or Sanders would likely have lost the EC in 2020. It’s a bitter pill for this Warren supporter to swallow, but…I can’t reach a different conclusion without severe rationalization.
@inthehands No worries. Not really looking for validation on this. Just working backwards and re-examing events. I'm mostly thinking on Mastodon and using the screen as brain proxy. You just happen to be privy to my thoughts right now.
@Adam_Cadmon1 For sure, and hope you don’t mind my bouncing thoughts back with you.
For sure there is a POSIWID sense in which this oligarchic, white supremacist nation •needs• Trump to exist, and would invent him if he didn’t. I see this less as sinister shadow conspiracy and more as the whole system working as intended in broad daylight.
@log@Adam_Cadmon1 Following those events closely at the time, I reached a completely different conclusion: a bunch of Black voters basically said, “Look, white people, we know you better than you know yourselves, and Biden’s the one who can actually win this.” And they were probably right. No eldritch abominations necessary; the system works as designed in plain sight.
I’m sure we disagree, but that’s my interpretation.
@Adam_Cadmon1@inthehands My thought has always been that the eldritch abominations that lurk behind reality saw the early (D) primaries and fixed South Carolina, then locked down broadcast media to force the story "Biden is winning" to ensure the desired result. Even if that didn't work, they have that bogus superdelegate system in place. Sanders was never going to get a fair shot, and Warren didn't kiss the correct rings.
It took a candidate (Obama) with absolutely preternatural political charisma (which neither Sanders nor Warren possess, sorry, no offense) to break through that kind of deep-seated prejudice. And we’re still living with the backlash.
@inthehands@Adam_Cadmon1 Something I rarely if ever see brought into the open is that Sanders is Jewish, and seeing a Jew running for the highest office in the land (regardless of how assimilated or secular he is) would've brought out an unbelievable amount of ugliness. I'd bet there're lifelong progressive Dems who'd hesitate at pulling the lever for a Jew.
Antisemitism in the US is like background noise. It's always there, but sometimes it gets loud enough for non-Jews to hear.
