I think I'm going to turn on content retention to clear out posts older than 6 months.
Anything older than that is just an inaccurate view of the Fediverse at this point, I think.

@ThaMunsta Yeah. I've done everything I can in the CLI in regards to removing things I haven't interacted with and culled accounts that no longer exist, but I'm sitting at like 150-200 gb per week and that just seems like a lot.
@BeAware I wish there were better tools for cleaning remote data. Inactive remote accounts. Instances where there are no follow[s|ers]. Instances with dead DNS entries, expired SSL certs, 5xx errors... I did a HUGE purge today and it was hard to know what I should delete without accidentally nuking the needles amongst the haystacks - so to speak...
@ThaMunsta I just did straight "content retention" for 6 months which is all posts AFAIK. Though, it does it when the network is low activity so it doesn't stress servers so it will take a few days.
@BeAware yeah I only keep 30 days media retention. If I want to see an image or video beyond that I'll just go to the remote instance 😂 it's so much data
Today I cleared out about 200k posts though. Freed up ~5gb of database after doing a VACUUM. Probably not worth the effort but it was a fun experiment
@BeAware ya that's all posts which is what I mean that it's too bad we don't have more "surgical" means of deleting. I'd probably prefer if I didn't delete posts I favorite for example. At any rate yeah in the next few days you should see tons of space restored 💪
