@waifu@hiro i feel like this server ducks the rot problem with the post pruning mrfs. apparently poast does it too and they dont have problems. only thing that sucks is that my bookmarks disappear occasionally
@hiro@mstdn.starnix.network - step 1 get "vps" from Frantech.ca - step 2 domain from the cheapest site you can find - step 3 ???????? - step 4 your plemora server is running and will die in 1.7 years out of plemora rot press enter to continue
@KuteboiCoder@waifu@hiro a. Yeah neither do misskey reactions /shrug. Also mastodon clients work with Pleroma you can literally go use the official mastodon app with pleroma most likely.
b. ??? Yes it's an activitypub application.. also Pleroma has them too just use any one of the dozens of mastodon clients with a pleroma instance...
I've actually tried though. Most of the iPhone apps for Masto &c fail miserably with the login process, even if two app platforms are compatible with federation. I've tried everything (like logging in via browser, inspecting JSON for tokens and stuff) cux I'm way too patient with alt tech shit.
@KuteboiCoder@waifu@hiro when did you do this??? pleroma is basically fully compatible unless mastodon has updated their api and these apps are expecting missing fields and just dying there. it should be working fine
@KuteboiCoder@waifu@hiro The misskey ui is okay I just wish it didn't immediately make my fans go wrrrrrr whenever i opened a misskey instance. I really like the pleroma fe ui its pretty easy on this machine and it has all the information i need on one screen and it also has a brilliant mobile ui.
Are you doing self-hosted? I've heard some folks have are doing raspberry pi stuff. I'm using an actual VPS cuz I don't wanna deal with shitty residential internet service
Actually I'm using two VPSs because I have a wiki and a wordpress installed (almost) on this same domain. hit my port 83, there's a shitty PHP wiki that I'm gonna replace with a better one
Nah, usually when ppl favor low-resource utilization over modern interfaces, it's cuz they don't have cloud hosting or dont wanna pay for it. No hate there, but I'm lovin my two VPSs. latent.subs4social.xyz (only has SSH port 22 exposed) is what's running my postgre database, plus whatever databases I set up for wiki and wordpress. 2 gigs of memory. $10/mo. tokyo.subs4social.xyz has port 80 and 443 open and costs $5/mo, with 1 gig of memory.
I'm committing all my config files into version control so I have a visible timeline of bugfixes and added features.
Also I had one VPS, in a different datacenter that didn't have extra cloud storage available. I migrated into a different datacenter, and broke it apart into to VPSs, by pushing and pulling from Gitlab.
I've got a bulk-download script that pulls my repos onto my personal hardware. If I get banned from my free gitlab, or banned from my VPS provider, I can restart my servers elsewhere.
I'm still #salty over the diss on my $100 laptop and cloud subscriptions.
Brah! You need to have a server in a datacenter if you want to experiment with AI. You think you can download a bunch of 100GB LLMs and SDXL models, one after another, and experiment with them with just your Comcast cable???
Being able to do nerdy shit with a cheap laptop is good, actually.
@KuteboiCoder@kirby@waifu@hiro And how is mastodon's lack of support for emoji reactions pleroma's problem? They won't see it either if they're getting it from misskey et al, the code simply isn't there.
