   @thomasfuchs TBF, there hasn't been a reasonably priced, simple-to-the-point, decent receiver in ages.
   Harman Kardon's last decade is entirely forgettable. Yamaha, pffft. Seems only Marantz still makes decent noise gear.
   Sad.

     I was never really interested in the 901s since you need the active equalizer. But now that I see they double as a cat plinth...hmmm.

     Hard agree though, my SX-780+SA-3200's will still be working long after all the modern stuff has failed in non-repairable ways.

     Sadly, prices for vintage equipment (not just amps, analog cameras and other stuff as well) have been going through the roof over the last decade…

     If you are handy with computers, you can also just set up a small server with a DAC (or a chromecast) and https://music-assistant.io which connects to pretty much everything you can imagine. Really nice.

     @thomasfuchs Very nice, but way above 1000€ nowadays 🥲. Though the smaller ones are still available for more reasonable prices.

     @thomasfuchs Yeah like I said, prices have gone completely through the roof.

     Just cleaned out the house of some friends‘ late parents. They wanted to throw away the 80s cassette boombox. „It’s 2024, who listens to cassettes anymore?“

     That thing goes for 200€ easily on Ebay now…

     Agree, I own a mid 80s Technics sound system and some self-build speakers.

     Everytime I turn it on, I realize just how bad modern affordable stuff sounds.
     And I'm not even very audiophile. I don't claim to hear colors.

     @thomasfuchs Alternatively, a Raspberry Pi running squeezelite, plugged into your existing AVR via HDMI, playing your FLACs like a charm, is also just fine.
