The fediverse solved the anti-censorship issue but people chose against its use
No, they chose to not use it at all, and they chose to not use it at all because of the network effect. People would prefer to play ban evasion games on Twitter or whatever instead of mass migration off such a platform.
I really think it boils down to the network effect. Their favorite celebrities, politicians, academics, etc, are on Twitter, not fedi, so they're going to join Twitter, not fedi. Nothing about anything else matters. The network effect is king.
@NEETzsche the biggest hindrance to the fediverse is that a majority of instances have seen fit to try to defederate any instance that doesn’t align with them bar for malicious and felonious content. Pile that on top of the mentality that comes with centralized platforms and it becomes a headache for normoids to want to engage.
I'm really not a fan of this idea that "filtering" people off of fedi is a good thing. Consider how stagnant fedi has become. That's not a win. That's a loss.
Except it's your friends who don't want to see -isms and -phobias who got "filtered." That's what people are talking about when they say "filtering."
What kind of things did your IRL friends post that made you lose respect for them?
