Cameron Watters (watters@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 11-May-2024 00:09:41 JST Cameron Watters @thomasfuchs I experienced it as an overly simplistic compression metaphor, so didn't initially experience it as "replace things people love with a soulless slab of magical sand" in the same way others did.
But it is very weird that people are challenging the validity of the perspective of folks who hated it.

I feel like if it had been ACTUAL blood, it would have registered as more cartooney and less disturbing.

You are missing *such* insight:“When I first saw the ad during the keynote, I didn’t think twice about it. It didn’t strike me as particularly clever, but I didn’t suspect for even a second that it might prove even slighty controversial.”

Robert Jan Schutten (rjschutten@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 11-May-2024 03:04:08 JST Robert Jan Schutten @thomasfuchs Controversial opinion here from me? I didn’t really hate it that much myself, but I can understand that it rubbed people the wrong way. Especially in light of anxiety about AI replacing artistic human expression. But I do feel that there is a bit of an overreaction. It’s a tech company trying to sell their product. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. Not everything in the world has to be made controversial.

Robert Jan Schutten (rjschutten@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 11-May-2024 03:31:50 JST Robert Jan Schutten @thomasfuchs Fair enough. Apple clearly misjudged the response to the ad, which is a problem if you’re trying to sell your products. But they also apologized, which is rare in today’s world of doubling down on your mistakes.
