     @MMS21 @kaia @arcana NZ salaries for programming are even worse. As an engineer i make maybe 10% more than minimum wage. Senior game devs here make minumum wage

     wtf, why is that? here in Germany we really struggle finding competent people. and it's still not US pay, but e.g. a programmer from uni is making 60k USD, Linux admin with 5y is making 70k USD a year, a security engineer with 5y 85k.

     @kaia @arcana @MMS21 over saturation. Within my lifetime, NZ went from being a place that was known for programming prowess and technical knowledge, to being a place where companys outsource development to.
     
     Im also in the 2nd top tax bracket :| and i dont have access to a bunch of grants, down to me making enough to *checks notes* be comfortable in paying rent and buying sustenance.
     
     Plus being one of the most expensive places in the world to live, I truly am at risk of becoming far left (/s)
