"The entire experience feels just like a MacBook"
Seriously what is the point then?
Why would anyone not just get the laptop that has a lot more apps for it and an operating system that doesn't suck for multitasking?

@samf yes, because no one needs that
@thomasfuchs Because a folding touchscreen MacBook with detachable keyboard doesn't exist yet
@thomasfuchs yet again, I’d want to be able to ‘drop into’ regular macOS on a pro. Why won’t they just merge the pro and the MacBook Air?
@samf There's a reason all these products have failed in the marketplace (like all the tablet-style computers that Microsoft made).
The laptop form factor is much more usable for 95% of use cases.
iPads are used mainly for media consumption and occasional web browsing and shopping; and in a very small niche for creativity applications.
@thomasfuchs I mean, perhaps YOU don’t. But as a daily iPad + Magic Keyboard user, with use-cases that prefer the keyboard and trackpad while some prefer touch, I certainly would!
@samf They've been trying to make iPads happen for 15 years now for professional apps.
It's not happening. I don't know what you want me to tell you, but it's a fantasy to "revolutionize computing" they're after; similar with the Vision Pro.
Meanwhile, all their professional customers buy their laptops and desktops; with tablets mainly using by consumers for content consumption.
@thomasfuchs I think you're conflating your personal needs/experience with everyone's needs/experience here. This "very small niche" you speak of is multiple billion dollar industries.
@panmanphil I was referring specifically to the new keyboard attachment, which transforms the iPad into basically a Mac with really weird broken user interface
@thomasfuchs I can't put a laptop on a music stand for charts, iOS based synths, loppers and such. I can't use a pen to sketch music. I'd love the iPad to be macos for sure, but only if battery life didn't suffer
