Many of the films in the replies — e.g. Dancer in the Dark, The Lobster — I thought were not worth seeing even the first time: cynicism and/or cruelty dressed up as profundity, trying to make a point about humanity while being indifferent to the humanity of their own characters, who exist only to serve the purpose of a sadistic storyteller. Meh.Your OP is a real challenge for me! I thought of Audition, but tbh not sure I’m glad I saw it the first time.

Aha! I finally thought of a clear answer: Anomalisa. Subtly, deeply disturbing; the movie left me feeling like a had a thin film of grime all over my brain for days. I don’t need to experience it again. Got it, thanks. BUT: it gave me a genuinely useful window into a particular kind of psychological brokeness, a numb, narcissistic disconnection from every possible human relationship, that is a thing that exists and is useful to know exists.
