Maybe doing some research and then going back an insisting on a referral to xyz.
In essence, this might be the Peter Principle at work: the GP has been "promoted " to his level of incompetence and doesn't know what to do. I'd say, he should be more than happy to make a referral and "pass the buck."

I understand. That visit was disheartening. Take your time to process that. And then, fight back.
IMO, it is merely a sign of the doc's own incompetence regarding your case.
Sad, but better this way then an unnecessary or harmful treatment. -

@HistoPol @androcat @actuallyautistic Currently lacking the spoons to pursue it, but I guess chasing the GP who sorted the referral for my ASD Dx will be the next step.
