@gsuberland @djsundog @outie @mcc Yes! Even more important, ban them from vehicle headlights, including retroactively. No grandfathered exception for the monstrosities sold with them.

@djsundog @outie @mcc I genuinely think we ought to ban use of bright blue LEDs like that in outdoor illumination products. there's a house not far from me that, for some unfathomable reason, has two retina-searing bright blue lamps on their gate posts, right on a busy main road. at night it's horrible, especially when combined with the low CRI LED street lamps that cast weird blocky shadows due to the grid of emitters they use.

@djsundog @outie @mcc it's also cos the semiconductor they use (GaN) is just so ridiculously efficient at producing blue light that as soon as you bias the LED past its minimum current by a tiny amount it goes off like Gandalf's fuckin' staff.

also doesn't help that your eyes adjust to scotopic vision in the dark, which has a really high luminous efficiency for that wavelength of blue. it's pretty much the worst possible form of light for any product that might go in a bedroom.

@outie @mcc it was impossible for so long that it was inevitable it would be physically painful once we achieved it. we're suckers for new painmakers.

@djsundog @mcc my old PC case had a blue power LED and the fucker was so bright it cast a visible, sharply defined circle of blue light on the wall opposite on the other side of the fucking room
