     @icedquinn yeah you can avoid customs fees if you lie about the contents/purpose. pretty sure that applies to most places though. Half the stuff I order from outside the US is marked as a "gift" when I get it lol

     @mikunuma yeah its big institutional corruption in the states. i've seen some commentary about it and talked to people who did international travel/business.
     
     they do a pretty good job of making sure the poors don't get their cuts here, so you don't see it, while elsewhere in the world everyone is grubbing their cuts openly.

     @icedquinn@blob.cat They say you need to pay bribes by mail here. The bribes to the regulatory agencies or they won't pass customs because the ship service skipped the drug test they couldn't go to since they were out delivering and other assorted nonsense. They factor that into the shipping bill. Only big time corruption allowed here, taping money to side of box is frowned upon here but people are just minorly upset that some delivery vans get looted if they pass section 8 housing every now and then. We need to bring back stagecoaches to delivery vans and not just to CIT.
