There are actually people that are asking for an un-federated, Fediverse platform....
And they don't see how ridiculous this is!
These types of platforms have been around for decades! They're called forums and they don't have federation at all!

Yes they are. By following the #threads and #fedipact hashtags you will see them. There is a pattern with these things. Some of them have good arguments to consider but most of the are wackos and grossly unknowledgeable of how the #ActivityPub thing works.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live The paradox in what the people from the fedipact want is… strange, to say the least. 🤦
No, it really isn't.
What they want is basically to just recreate what Twitter and Facebook are but by their rules while claiming to be part of a greater network. It's gatekeeping, which frankly a lot of those same people would condemn if you decided you didn't want them through the gate.
Seal the network and only allow the chosen or those loyal to the cause to be part of it.
@Twitter_expat @BeAware ah we are in the "characterize all dissenters as crazy” phase I see. 👍
@BeAware @Twitter_expat maybe instead of misrepresenting peoples arguments you can take a moment and listen to concerns of people who don't look like you.
Not everyone has the privilege or the means to live up to your puritan ideology of what the fediverse should be. Some of us are in the unfortunate position of considering how interpolating with a hostile corporation will affect others.

#activitypub is just a code that connect different things, it’s not a help group nor every user of that code have to behave like a support group person. I don’t have to listen to the concerns of anyone I don’t know why you think that way. Go for a hour using this code that have similar interest and between yourself and them then ask if the want to listen to other people arguments. Asking anyone else is so weird and out of place.
@BeAware People have a slider on the spectrum between privacy and openness. It's OK for different people and groups to set that slider at different places. I'd say that for a tightly-bound community, disabling federation or using allowlist federation may meet their needs for privacy.
