      @redstarfish Based.

      Some of them will even try to say you must submit documents in the .docx format and the only suitable response to that you'll be submitting a pdf.

      @redstarfish Unfortunately that's risky as they're likely going to open it in word, as word intentionally implements ODT extremely poorly and not to spec (I observed a valid .odf presentation being displayed as white pages when opened with powerpoint previously for example).

      The reason it's in that state is because some governments at least had enough backbone to tell them that their software must support ODF or it's being barred from use in the government, but they unfortunately didn't follow up.

      @redstarfish Meanwhile pdf text spacing is typically rendered correctly by the vast majority of pdf renders (otherwise adobe doesn't license its pdf patents), so you can know that the text will appear correctly in the formatting you set.

      I like writing documents in LaTeX myself and really the only output format that normies can view is pdf.

      Some pdf viewers don't implement things like links unfortunately, but that doesn't seem to be applicable to this case.

      I always recommend GNU Jami.
      as for reasons, it respects our freedom and privacy, it runs on most operating systems for desktops and mobiles, and it doesn't depend on any proprietary infrastructure that could exploit us, censor us, or otherwise snoop on us and be enshittified? thanks but no thanks, I don't wish to get Zuck (or anyone else) involved in our private conversations. as says a friend of mine, why should I go along with your platform of (poor) choice, that would screw us both, but you can't go alone with my platform of choice, that would keep us from being controlled and screwed with. besides, your platform of choice would require me to carry a tracking device.
      that's how I generally respond

      Well done, @redstarfish!
      It helps every time we say "no".
      I really don't like how common WhatsApp had become, and refusing to use it has become a social challenge.

      By the way, when someone invites you to WhatsApp, do you offer an alternative? Do you invite them to use something better, or do you at least explain shortly why WhatsApp is not acceptable? (I usually don't, I often just say no and move on, but I'd like to do more).
