How would one make a bridge between fedi (a social media service) and a chat room (like Matrix or Discord)? Assuming it's even a good idea. You can't just have the messages scattered about into the aether, disconnected. And making it one of those never-ending threads where the last message is just a reply to the previous one, sounds kinda... just as insane, to be honest.

@NEETzsche I guess one could keep the local database of posts sent by the bridge, and if the post/message is a reply to something, check the contents of the post that's being replied to and make a response to corresponding post ID on other side.

Yeah you could rely on that kind of metadata, but then people often don't use it in chat rooms. They're replying to a message in a chat room, but they don't click the "reply" button like they do here. Here's an example. As far as the metadata is concerned, these two messages are separated. However, they're clearly connected by the context. I'm not even sure a timer would consistently separate them correctly. People could return to a chat room hours, days after the fact and respond in this way and it would make just as much sense.

@NEETzsche @mint down is new and down is old networks just don't mix, you're probably better off having people manually mark sections to post with emoji as a quote collector
