   gendered animal names seem quite alien to city dwellers. One of the grammar exercises I do with my kids is to have them look up the names for the boy, girl, baby and grouping of different animals. Invariably, someone doesn't know some of the boys and girls are the same animal species.

     A woman in her early 20s asked me today why they put roosters in coops with chickens. Took me a second to realise she thought roosters were another species, then she asked me if there are "girl roosters".
