   My kid is kicking my ass today. Nothing I do keeps them occupied for more than a few minutes before it’s back to DADDY DADDY DADDY. I’m losing my mind.

   I’m ready to jump off a bridge

   Don’t have kids.

     @syntaxseed Thank you for the support. We've filled our home with toys and 'stations' for our little one to keep occupied. But they insist on having someone around to play with. Suppose it's one of the drawbacks of having an only child.

     I appreciate the support tho. I also know there will come a time when they won't want me to play with them so I try to remain thankful, even when I'm falling apart 😅

     @sand I made the choice early on to let my kids be bored & miserable to force them to learn to amuse themselves. I got major side-eye from other parents... but the good news is that they do eventually get much much better at it & they develop a lot of creativity.

     Don't feel guilty for not entertaining them constantly.

     @tomasaschan That's great insight and sound advice. Usually when they see me working, whether it's around the house or on my computer they'll figure something out on their own.

     But lately it's been them standing right next to me with toy in hand as I work asking me if I'm done or how much longer before they can play with me.

     I know it's only a matter of time before I won't be 'cool' anymore and they won't want me around as much. I try to remain grateful for my time, just been a tough stretch

     @sand I read somewhere else in my feed a (long) while ago, and it really helped me come to terms with days like that: "You're the toy."

     The point (for them) isn't to have you find some thing they want to play with for a while. It's to play _with you_. So you can either play along, and be a toy for a while, or decide you don't have the time/energy/stamina for it, and just refuse. They'll figure out some other way to entertain themselves if you give them long enough.
